My name is Taylor-Raye Council and I am an Old Dominion Alumna with a degree in Political Science and minor in English. I plan on teaching English and History at a high school while also earning a Master’s Degree in Education. I have several experiences with politics: testifying for Senate Bill 733 and House Bill 980 in front of the General Assembly, writing articles for the National Young Democratic Socialists of America through the activists committee, and founding my own political literacy organization at Old Dominion University. While attending my 4th year, I tutored a student for English as his second language. While given this amazing opportunity, I was able to strengthen my teaching technique abilities when it came to introducing new lessons and activities to someone who’s 1st language is not English. My philosophy with teaching stems from the importance growing with the student and never allowing them or yourself to stay stagnant. There is always something new to learn whether you are the student or instructor.
