My name is Madyson Fannon and I am a senior at Old Dominion University majoring in public health. After graduation, I will be attending Eastern Virginia Medical School to get my Masters in Physician Assistant Studies. To complete my undergraduate degree I am completing an internship at Wagner Kapoor Institute, a private medical group specializing in diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, eye tumors, and other complex medical and surgical eye disease affecting the anterior chamber of the eye. This practice has 9 locations, both core and remote, across the Hampton Roads and North Carolina. The practice was founded in 1987 by Dr. Alan Wagner and has since welcomed a new partner provider Dr. Kapil Kapoor while leading the field in clinical research and technology. The medical group practices under the mission of “Saving Sight, Enhancing Lives” to care for its diverse patient population. During my internship, I have the opportunity to be precepted by Shawna Gallagher. Shawna has been with WKI for over 20 years, and now serves as the director of clinical operations. She oversees all technicians and ensures the practice operates smoothly from a clinical and staffing aspect.
