Professional Goals
As I begin working with Silvercare LLC, I plan to accomplish all the goals I have set for myself. It is important that I take the time to understand the company’s policies and procedures. Understanding the policies and procedures is what helps prevent chaos from happening within a business. I plan to accomplish this goal by reading through all the policies and procedures, and referring back to them periodically. Overtime, I will be able to maintain all the policies and procedures inside my head.
Another goal I have set for myself is to improve upon my problem-solving skills. Health care administrators’ position calls for them to manage through issues and conflict. So, I plan to get creative and try to develop a method that can help navigate through situations. I do not want the problems I face to consume me. I want to learn how to deal with this issues without allowing it to stress me completely out. The more I practice with this , the better I will be once I start my actual career.
Lastly, I will be working to improve my communication skills. Sometimes I can be shy, which could lead to me being quiet. As a health administrator, having poor communication can ruin certain relationships, and a company’s reputation. So, I plan to engage a lot more to get me out of my comfort zone. Good communications is what helps lead to the best results of an outcome. Each goal will help prepare me to take on the responsibility of managing my own healthcare facility.
Activity Summary:
Things got off to a rocky start at the beginning of my internship due to the preceptor losing a family member. So, the situation caused her focus to be a bit off. Throughout time, the pace of things began to pick up, and my preceptor began to teach me more about administrative work. I have formed a great bond with my preceptor. She is really taking the time to show me the different aspects of the job. All the employees are welcoming as well. If there is a situation I may not understand, they do not mind helping me out. As I’ve shadowed my preceptor, I learned how to complete VA authorizations. I am given important paperwork from the VA to put the authorization codes into the system. I also am tasked with completing the billing process for their partnerships. I complete the billing for VA clients, Medicaid clients, Senior Service clients, and private pay clients. I tally up the total hours the clients receive and compare them to the normal hours they are given. If they are missing any hours, the funds need to be adjusted. Another cool task of mine is completing the company’s fraud database search. There is a healthcare list that consists of people who are banned from accessing medical information due to fraudulent activity. I searched each employee’s name to see if they were in the system. If I were to come across the name of an employee, I pass the information along to my preceptor. So far, my time at silver care has been pleasant.
Activity Summary 2
The last 100 hours completed at Silver Care was very enjoyable. I was able to interact more with future employees as I sat down during the interview processes that were going on during my time there. The interview process would begin with me asking for two forms of ID from the interviewee, as well as any certification they may have whether it is PCA, CAN, or NA. I would copy the documentation, and then sit the interviewee in the back room to fill out their application. Once the application was complete, I would go over it and take notes of things I may want to ask them in the interview. My preceptor and I would go to the room, and she would shadow me during the interview process. I would introduce myself to the client and begin to ask any questions that I have written down. Once the Interview has come to an end my last question to the interviewee is how did they believe they are an asset to the company? Once the interview is over, my preceptor would critique me as needed. Another cool last I was assigned to see why the company has so many cancelled shifts during the month. I printed out all the cancelled shifts for the month, and the reasons for the cancelled shifts. I created a legend and placed each shift into the appropriate area. I then converted the data into a colorful Pie Graph to give to my preceptor to see what has been going on in the company for the last past months. I continued to do billing, authorizations, customer service, etc. during my time at Silver Care. The atmosphere was still very much welcoming, and since I stayed with a positive attitude, positive energy was returned to me.
