Hi, I’m Alex Bretana! I’m 20 years old, and I was born in Richmond, Virginia, but I grew up in Chesterfield County. I developed an interest in computers and technology at an early age, and am majoring in Cyber Operations at ODU as a part of the class of 2028.

Why Cybersecurity?
I developed my interest in computers and technology very early on. My dad taught me how to use the computer, with time-limits on it. At about the same time, the janitor at my elementary school left the server room open, and I got a peek, and my grandfather bought my brother and I a Nintendo Wii. This made me realize how there is a whole WORLD of technology and information out there, and I was hooked. I would research computer parts and computer technology, play games and try and figure out how they worked, anything electronic I could get my hands on. Eventually, as I matured, I realized that cybersecurity is the professional future of technology, as the world becomes electronic in itself. Every company has electronic databases and systems, and there will always be someone malicious who will want access for nefarious means, which means there has to be someone on the other side keeping the data secure.
