About Me
Hi! My name is Angel Nestor, I am a Filipino-American who’s lived in the US for just around 12 years. I currently study at ODU and am looking at earning a bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity.
Experience with Cybersecurity so far
Since I am a freshman, I don’t have much experience with learning about cybersecurity at ODU yet. To be completely honest, my only experience within the IT field was working as a summer hire in the US embassy, where I was able to watch IT workers do their jobs and had them teach me a few things about working in IT in the government (creating and deleting employee accounts, managing and updating websites (some of which I did!), how phone lines within the building work, etc.). The cybersecurity class I’m in currently, which is CYSE200, has let me learn in depth about the roles of IT in an organization and why it is so important. It has also taught me about business structuring so far.
Why Cybersecurity?
Honestly, when I first thought of cybersecurity back in middle school, I thought it was just a field that protected companies from hackers and nothing more. My view is broadening now, and for as long as I remember I’ve always had a connection and fascination with computers and how software worked, so I decided to see if I could make working with computers a liable job. I have interest in both the field of cybersecurity and information technology, and I think I’d be completely content if I were to get a job concerning either as long as it paid decently. In addition, I like solving problems within computers or security, it feels like a puzzle that gives a great sense of satisfaction when solved!
Anyways, thank you for reading my page, hope to see you around!
