My name is Benjy Bentil. I am in my third year as a Cybersecurity major at Old Dominion University. I am excited to share my journey with you through this e-portfolio. This is not just a collection of work. It is a window into the skills I have gained and the values I live by as a student and future professional in the field of Cybersecurity.

I chose Cybersecurity because I have always been fascinated by technology. From an early age I found myself wondering how computers talk to each other and how data moves across networks. I enjoyed exploring new programs and I often tried to figure out what was happening behind the scenes. Over time I began to realize that technology is powerful but also vulnerable. That understanding sparked my desire to protect digital spaces from threats. It made me want to be part of the solution that keeps people and organizations safe.

Cybersecurity is about fixing broken systems and also about building strong ones before trouble starts. In this field, you need to understand how systems can be attacked so that you can defend them better. You need to think like both a builder and a problem solver. I am drawn to this challenge because it combines logic and creativity. Every new project is like a puzzle. Every solution has the power to protect someone’s privacy or stop harmful attacks before they begin.

During my studies at Old Dominion University I have learned about many areas of Cybersecurity. Networking has shown me how devices connect and share information. Coding has taught me how to speak the language of machines and create tools that solve problems. Security principles have helped me understand why prevention is as important as reaction. I have also studied risk management and ethical hacking. These lessons have made me appreciate the balance between exploring weaknesses and protecting them from misuse.

Cybersecurity is more than a technical skill set. It is also a responsibility. The work we do as cybersecurity professionals affects real people. It protects their personal information. It keeps businesses running. It defends national security. The threats are always changing and that means the learning never stops. I see this as a challenge and an opportunity. I am committed to staying up to date with the latest tools and strategies so that I can adapt to new dangers as they appear.

I believe that the most effective cybersecurity experts are the ones who combine technical expertise with strong problem-solving and communication skills. You need to explain complex risks in a way that non-technical people can understand. You need to work well in a team and build trust. My time at ODU has given me many opportunities to develop these abilities. Group projects have taught me how to divide tasks and collaborate effectively. Presentations have strengthened my public speaking skills. Writing assignments have helped me organize my thoughts and share them clearly.

Outside of my classes I continue to look for ways to grow. I have attended cybersecurity events and workshops where I could connect with others who share my passion. I have also explored online courses and hands-on labs that let me practice in simulated environments. These activities help me see how classroom knowledge applies to real-world challenges.

I am also a person with interests beyond my major. When I am not studying I enjoy reading. Books allow me to explore different perspectives and ideas. Reading keeps my mind sharp and often gives me creative solutions to problems. I also like to stay active. Going to the gym helps me stay disciplined and focused. Physical exercise teaches patience and persistence which are qualities that also help in my academic and professional life. Basketball is another activity I enjoy. Playing with friends strengthens my teamwork skills and reminds me that working together is often the best way to succeed.

Balancing academics with personal interests keeps me grounded. It also reminds me that Cybersecurity is not only about technology. It is about people. The systems we protect serve human needs. The solutions we build must consider human behavior. This balance between the technical and the human side is one of the reasons I value an interdisciplinary education. I can learn from different fields and bring those lessons into my cybersecurity work.

To reach this goal I am building a strong foundation in both theory and practice. I am learning the principles that guide good security design. I am practicing the technical skills that allow me to implement those principles. I am also developing the soft skills that will help me work effectively with clients, colleagues, and the public. I believe that this combination will prepare me to handle the diverse challenges of the field.

I know that technology will continue to evolve. New devices will be created. New threats will appear. The pace of change in Cybersecurity is fast and the stakes are high. That is why I am committed to lifelong learning. I will keep seeking knowledge and improving my skills so that I can meet the needs of the future.
