Hi! I am Alyssa. I graduated from Granby High School in 2008, took many years off of school and started my family. I started college finally in the fall of 2019 and received my Associates degree from TCC the summer of 2020 leading to my transfer to ODU to continue my journey to become a forensic psychologist. My degree from TCC is in General Studies since I was unsure of what I wanted to be “when I grow up” when I started. This put me in a variety of different courses, psychology being one of them. It was after taking my first psych course that I realized that I wanted to do something with psychology as my career, but I was not interested in being a therapist. I have always been interested in criminal type topics so I searched what types of careers involved both psychology and criminal justice/criminology and this led me to the field of forensic psychology. Because ODU does not have an actual forensic psychology program, I am actually double majoring. My majors are psychology, of course, and criminal justice. I am currently working on my bachelors, but my goal is to one day obtain my PhD in the subject(s)!
I am taking this course because I believe that learning about the different behaviors/experiences for different cultures will help with my career dealing with criminals and why do the things that they do or why they are the way they are, which is part of what a forensic psychologist does.
More about me as an individual: I am 31 and married with two children. My girls are Maddalyn who is 11 and Ryleigh who is 9. They drive me insane, but I love them anyway 😉 Currently, as most people with school-aged children around here are, we are dealing with virtual learning for them, which is not going all that well, unfortunately. My kids have been virtual since before spring break of last school year and there is no end in sight for being virtual. This, of course, has made myself being a full-time student a lot harder and has caused me to cut back on classes this semester.
In my “free time,” whenever I actually get that, since my husband is only home on weekends currently, I like to hang out with my friends (watching tv, shopping, just hanging out, it doesn’t matter), crafts of all kinds, reading, and being outdoors….when it’s NOT cold. Other than that, I spend most of my time with my girls being weird, watching Disney movies to sing along to, and picking on them for fun. And that is pretty much all there is to my life as a mom, wife and student. Pictured is my husband, my girls and myself 🙂
