Hello, my name is Sarrah Rosestella R. Bioc, and I am currently a senior at Old Dominion University. I transferred from Tidewater Community College and chose ODU for it’s Asian Studies program. Towards my last year, I had chosen to minor in Japanese studies. I have a strong passion for learning languages. I have experience in studying Spanish, Japanese and Chinese through standardized education and have studied Korean and Filipino on the side. At ODU, I have taken JAPN 312 (a reading and writing comprehensive class), JAPN 395 (a basic writing and communications class), and JAPN 309 (a Kanji class). I am currently taking JAPN 311 (a speaking and listening class).
This is my last semester at ODU in which I am able to take Japanese language classes. To fill in the gap of continuing learning language, I am taking a CHIN 212 course in Spring 2020. I have enjoyed taking Japanese language classes and seeing my improvement in writing, reading, and, especially, speaking.
My plans for the future include participating in the JET Program, working towards a teaching certificate, and becoming a Japanese or Chinese language teacher in the United States. Again, I have a strong passion for learning languages and wish to be able to share this passion for learning with others. I wish to be a role model to others who wish to learn other languages and believe that these goals will not only fulfill me, but also be fulfilling to others. I want to be part of something that will help create a strong international culture through connections and a genuine love for learning. Through diversity, I believe people can be unified.
