I am a male who came from a mixed family household hoping to obtain a career in Cyber Security. I graduated from John Randolph Tucker High School in 2018 with an OSHA, Workplace Readiness, and First Aid certification. I then enrolled in J Sargent Reynolds Community College to complete an Associates Degree in General Studies. After completing my degree I got accepted here in Old Dominion University where I take classes hoping to learn more about the necessary security required to live in this technical world.
(I am the one on the right.)
Why do I want to pursue Cyber Security?
Throughout school, life was boring because it felt like everything was repetitive and pointless. It was so easy to get “good grades” it did not feel worth while at the time. I was then exposed to the computer world, where I felt at a loss. I did not know anything, and because of this I felt stupid whenever I would ask a question that seemed trivial. The burning desire to learn more peaked because it made me realize I am not as smart as I think I am. I can be smarter than the current me every day. That got me excited, to compete with myself every day and prove that I was better than my previous self gave me self-motivation. I went into a field unfamiliar to me to make it familiar. The best part about this field, is it is constantly growing. This means there is always more to find out, and more reasons to show that I can improve.
