About

I am a student at Old Dominion University pursuing a bachelor’s degree in health services administration, with a minor in management. I am on track to graduate in December 2024. The internship I have accepted and am participating in is for a nonprofit organization, Healthy Chesapeake. This is a health promotion company that looks to better the health of the Chesapeake community with their Healthier 757 initiative. This initiative uses the help of their health literacy website app, “Rewards for Healthy Living.” This app allows individuals of the 757 and service members to sign up and play interactive games to learn more about health disparities. The sign up is completely free and is for the benefit of the community. Individuals also have a chance to win real cash prizes monthly. The mission of healthy Chesapeake is to build a culture of wellness that supports one another for a healthier community in Chesapeake. Their vision is to be the healthiest community in Virginia. Some objectives are to collaborate between citizens and businesses. They also would like to analyze effectiveness and report outcomes of projects and efforts. I got introduced to this opportunity by Phyllis Stoneburner who is the Executive Director of healthy Chesapeake who introduced me to Ray Shivley. Phyllis has held numerous leadership roles in hospitals and has always had a passion for the population and communities’ health.
