Caitlin G. Ehlers

As a history major, I have spent several hours studying, leaning, and practicing the Spanish language. Building my knowledge of the language is very important as I love to travel so one day it will benefit me to know the language very well. Also, pursuing a career as an educator, knowing Spanish can help me and my English Learning Students be able to communicate better with each other.

Outside of being a full time college student, I am an active member in Greek life. I am a member of the women’s fraternity, Pi Beta Phi and I am the first Vice President of my chapter. I am active in the community, as our philanthropic effort is centered around raising awareness for illiteracy, we often go to neighboring schools around ODU and read to students. I am also a mother to a very active 1 year old boy with another baby due to be here Christmas Day!

Throughout this portfolio, you can find the experience I had with learning Spanish this semester. I found it useful to study the Spanish language not only for my major but to be well versed with the ability to communicate with more individuals who might not speak English. I intend to continue my understanding and knowledge of the Spanish language and to continue to learn it more. Being a history education major, I found it useful to study a language outside of my comfort zone, as it will be easier for me to understand primary sources that I find.

My experience with Spanish has been challenging, however I feel confident in the information that I have learned with my ability to read, write, and speak the Spanish language. This is all reflected and shown throughout this portfolio.
