About Me

Hello! My name is Kyle Canady my education and career path certainly hasn’t gone in a straight line. My first Bachelor’s degree was from UVA in creative writing but after experiencing some work in English fields I realized that career path was not for me. I’m currently working on a second bachelor’s here at ODU with a major in Psychology and a minor in Computer Science. Prior to switching my major to Psychology I was studying Computer Science and was an undergraduate research assistant which cemented in me that I’d like to conduct research of my own some day. My current major goal will be to attend a PhD program after I graduate from ODU in December of this year.

I have a firm belief that exposure to diverse topics and ideas is crucial to being the best problem solver possible. While courses I’ve previously taken may not have been necessary the exposure to the material and problem solving methodologies I’ve been exposed to have helped me immensely not only in other classes but also in life; thus why I am taking this course. Many topics and studies are presented through the lens of WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, and Democratic) individuals, and as I’ve never personally experienced a region not considered WEIRD, I simply don’t know what I don’t know about potential similarities or differences between the two. That gap in knowledge is one I would like to fill.
