Purpose

The purpose of this website is to incorporate my experience at the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles, CA, specifically the Tolerancenter exhibit, into my Human Rights in World Literature course at Old Dominion University. My experience as well as the material and exhibits within the museum will later serve as the core of my final project.

The purpose of this museum is to “challenge visitors to understand the Holocaust in both historic and contemporary contexts, to confront all forms of discrimination in the work today, and to promote social justice and dignity for all.” This attraction has become “not only a symbol of society’s quest to live peacefully together, but also an important resource on how to achieve that goal.”

This museum was created by Simon Wiesenthal, a Jewish-Austrian Holocaust survivor. The museum has hosted 7 million visitors since 1993. There are five exhibits within the museum, although the fifth, Anne, is not included in the ticket price and must be purchased separately:

  1. Tolerancenter
  2. Holocaust
  3. Finding Our Families, Finding Ourselves
  4. Para Todos Los Ninos
  5. Anne
