About Me

Picture of Sarah Dean

I am currently in my third year at Old Dominion University with a declared major in psychology and an intended major in nursing. I am reapplying this semester to Old Dominion’s nursing program. After graduation, I hope to work as a registered nurse and gain experience while planning and saving up to go to graduate school. Depending on my experience, I will either study to be a nurse practitioner or a physician assistant. I hope to work in geriatrics, but I also have an interest in psychiatric nursing. Regardless of whichever area of nursing I work in, I know that psychology is important in the medical field. I am taking cross-cultural psychology for this reason. Culture is a vital component of many people’s identities. Understanding how culture influences people’s behaviors and thoughts will help me to be more knowledgeable and sensitive in different situations. Psychology permeates many disciples. I decided to choose it as my second major for this reason. Last semester, I took physiological psychology and loved learning about the biological components that explain psychology. I especially loved learning about neurology and its connections with psychology. Knowledge from all aspects of psychology will provide me with an understanding crucial to a future medical professional.
