About Me

My name is Derrick Amissah. I am currently in my junior year at Old Dominion University studying Cybersecurity. I have a passion for information security, technology and defending an institution from attacks. I am currently employed as a Help Desk Technician at ODU. As a Help Desk Technician I am able to get hands on experience with troubleshooting and user support. I have developed customer support, communication, and technical skills through this position.

I would like to further my career in Risk Management Framework (RMF) in the realm of cybersecurity. I would like to gain a better understanding of how institutions find vulnerabilities and analyze threats and how they utilize security controls in order to protect their information assets. I would also like to gain a greater understanding of the RMF components such as risk analysis, continuous monitoring and security assessments. I would like to further my knowledge in this field in order to assist an institution in meeting key cybersecurity objectives and maintaining secure systems.

I would also like to eventually work at GovTech and continue a career in cybersecurity with a focus on Risk Management and RMF. I am interested in increasing my knowledge through practical experience, education and professional development. As a Help Desk Technician I have gained practical IT experience that has further encouraged me to seek higher level cybersecurity positions. I also look forward to continuing to develop technical abilities, gain experience from seasoned professionals and make a contribution to the security of an organization’s information systems.
