Welcome to My Cybersecurity Portfolio
My name is Domari Daniel, and I am a cybersecurity student at Old Dominion University. This site showcases my coursework, projects, and professional development throughout the cybersecurity program.

Discussion Board: Protecting Availability
In this discussion board, you are the CISO for a publicly traded company. What protections would you implement to ensure availability of your systems (and why)?

As the CISO of Verizon, my top priority is ensuring our systems remain continuously available, because even the strongest security controls don’t matter if the business cannot operate. To protect availability, I would focus on three key areas. First, I would implement strong redundancy and make sure every critical system has backups, failovers, servers, and alternative network paths. If one component fails, operations continue without interruption. This prevents single points of failure from taking down the business. Second, I would use continuous monitoring and alerting. Real time visibility helps us detect outages, performance issues, or early signs of an attack before they escalate. Lastly, I would deploy DDoS protection. Publicly traded companies are common targets for denial-of-service attacks. Using a mix of cloud-based filtering, rate limiting, and traffic scrubbing keeps our services reachable even under heavy attack.

Discussion Board: The NIST Cybersecurity Framework
From your readings of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, what benefit can organizations gain from using this framework, and how would you use it at your future workplace?

Organizations benefit from the NIST Cybersecurity Framework because it gives them a structured way to understand and improve their security posture. The framework is designed to be flexible and can be used by any industry. It helps organizations identify what they need to protect, what threats they face, and what actions they should take to reduce risk. The reading states that the CSF is the foundation for building cybersecurity programs and that professionals will use it throughout their careers. In my future workplace, I would use the CSF as a roadmap. I would start by using the framework to identify our current security gaps. Then I would map our policies, tools, and processes to the CSF functions and categories. This would help me show leadership where we are strong and where we need investment. I would also use the CSF to guide training, risk assessments, and long-term planning. Since the framework is widely recognized, it would help ensure that our security program stays aligned with industry expectations and best practices.

Discussion Board: Ethical Considerations of CRISPR Gene Editing
Based on your readings related to the Bio Cybersecurity section of this course, identify possible ethical considerations of CRISPR Gene Editing and explain your position.

CRISPR raises serious ethical concerns because it gives people the power to change genetic material in ways that could help or harm society. The readings show that biotechnology has dual use risks. The same tool that can cure disease can also be misused to create stronger pathogens or dangerous genetic changes. CRISPR makes this easier because it is fast, cheap, and accessible. Another concern is privacy. Genetic data is now stored digitally, which makes it vulnerable to hacking or unauthorized access. If someone’s DNA is stolen or misused, it could lead to discrimination, health exploitation, or biological harm. This creates ethical questions about consent and who should control genetic information. My position is that CRISPR should be used, but only with strict oversight. Strong regulations and secure data practices are necessary to protect both public safety and scientific progress.
