Hello! My name is Emmi Zapata and I am a freshman at Old Dominion University studying cybersecurity. I specifically chose cybersecurity because I’e always been intrigued by the constant change in technology, crime, security, and solving problems. I am especially curious in learning more about cybercrime and how I can implement that into helping people.

As my education continues at ODU, I am hoping to strengthen my knowledge in areas of cybersecurity, information technology, and crime as a whole. I am specifically interested in the correlation between cybersecurity and criminal justice and how technology can be used to take down and investigate crime.

Other than in school, I enjoy running, creating art, hanging out with my sisters and friends, and eating bananas. I also love trying new things and having an open mind. These interests of mine have helped me acquire skills like persistence, creativity, and optimism which I think are important when it comes to working in cybersecurity.

My end goal is to graduate from Old Dominion University with the experience and training needed to build a successful career in cybersecurity. I am ecstatic to use my ePortfolio to track my progress, which will help me showcase my strengths in this field while also allowing me to reflect on my past work, allowing me to grow as a student and future cybersecurity worker.
