Welcome to my Cell Biology ePortfolio! My name is Callie Crook and I am a sophmore majoring in marine biology at Old Dominion University. Some fun facts about me is that I am on the rowing team here at ODU, and want to pursue my career in the Coast Guard after college.

One thing that I learned in this class that helped me get a better connection to my other coursework, especially in genetics, was the understanding of mutations. Mutations in the cell signaling pathways can lead to abnormal and uncontrollable cell growth and cancer. This topic was interesting because of how many different types of mutations there are and what there functions were. In silent mutations, there is no change in the amino acid but in missense mutations, one amino acid is substituted for another. In nonsense a stop coding is brought in and lead to the termination of premature proteins. Understanding this concept at the cellular and molecular level made it helpful for me to interpret experimental data on gene expression and mutations that I will take in the future.
Here are some of my assignments that helped me develop an understanding of cell biology.
