About

Hi! My name is Elsie VanHoorik and as of 2025 I am a senior in college and this is my third year at ODU. I transferred here from a small college in South Dakota called Augustana University. My major is biomedical sciences and my plan is to go to dental school after graduating. In my free time, I like to read, nap, crochet, bake, and knit.  Originally I am from Big Lake, Minnesota so being in Virginia is a big change for me!

In my free time, I like to work with an organization called Feral Affairs Network (FAN). FAN is a nonprofit that works with feral cats. The Norfolk Naval Base has a large population of feral cats, while civilians are not allowed to go on base to trap the cats (this is done by a naval environmental coordinator), I help with transporting the cats to and from the vet for neutering/spaying and then to another volunteers house for resting. After they are healed from surgery, the feral cats are found a forever home. These forever homes are still outdoors, but now they have shelter to sleep and a constant source of food. Along with rehoming feral cats, FAN also works on trapping kittens that are not yet feral and can be house cats. With organizations around Norfolk, such as cat cafes and pet stores, FAN finds the kittens forever homes.

This is me and my cat olive 🙂
