My family has accumulated more than 350 years in the uniformed service of our. Additionally, my family tree includes James Madison, the 4th President of the United States. I was the youngest candidate for public office in the history of Virginia when I ran for a seat on the Norfolk, Virginia City Council as a high school student. I later served in the United States Army with several years on the staff of the President of the United States. I have a Bachelor of Arts in social sciences from the University of North Dakota and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Massachusetts School of Law. I have practiced government relations and political consulting for ten years and taught at the middle and senior high schools.
I am pursuing a Ph.D. in educational foundations and leadership with a focus on higher education. I serve as a graduate teaching assistant to Dr. Dennis Gregory. My research interests are in higher education law and policy and intercollegiate athletics. I plan on conducting my dissertation research and writing in the area of student athletes’ experiences and expectations with name, image, and likeness. I have a variety of teaching experiences, to include:
United States Army Training Command:
The Law of Armed Conflict; United States Army (1998, 1999) [Adult (Military)]
Geography of War (1999) [Adult (Military)]
Ethics of Military Service (2000) [Adult (Military)]
Thief River Falls, Minnesota School District:
Various Courses at both the middle and senior high schools (2013—2019) [Grades 6—12]
Old Dominion University:
The Law of Higher Education [T.A.] (Fall 2021, Spring 2022) [Masters and Doctoral Students]
Catholic High School:
Substitute Teacher in grades 9-12 (Spring 2022)
Professionally, I would like to pursue an academic appointment at a university or law school teaching in the area of education law, sports law, athletic administration, or higher education policy. As an alternative opportunity, I could see myself in intercollegiate athletic administration.
