My name is Funmi Afolabi and I am currently on my year abroad here at Old Dominion University. I was born in Nigeria but raised and now live in the United Kingdom. Back in the United Kingdom, I study LLB Law at the University of Leicester. After completing my year abroad here at ODU, I will have one more year at the University of Leicester before I graduate. My interest in studying abroad arose out of curiosity and a desire to experience a different culture. Additionally, I wanted to go outside of my comfort zone and to something out of the ordinary. Through embarking on this year abroad, I have tried new things, explored different places, and immersed myself in American culture.
By studying law, I have developed an aspiration to qualify as a solicitor. Despite this ambition, I have an interest in learning about cybersecurity. This is because, it is evident that technology is continuously evolving and that calls for attention to any potential risks that may arise. I am curious to see how those risks are mitigated through cybersecurity. Moreover, I am intrigued to see how this course covers the interdisciplinary nature of cybersecurity and whether there are any intersections with the law as, this ties in well with my academic interests.
