Hi there! I am a full-time 22 year old college student at Old Dominion University with a major in Healthcare Administration. I have landed an internship with CHIP, but more specifically, with Parent Cafe. For the duration of my internship, I will be maintaining and organizing a healthy workshop with families throughout the entire Hampton Roads area to gather individuals seeking to better themselves or their families. I host child minding activities with children ages 0-14, and create open spaces for organization of data, ideas, themes, and itineraries. With CHIP (Children’s Health Investment Program) they seek to spread awareness to resources available in the 757 area in hopes to decrease the loss of housing, increase the quality of families and parenting, and to create spaces where everybody feels welcomed to be who they are to better themselves. The location of the CHIP organization is in South Norfolk, following a building consisting of the company “Champions for Children”. CHIP’s mission is to enhance the health and development of children from birth through age 5 by improving access to quality healthcare, early childhood education, and family support. The program strives to break the cycle of poverty by addressing both immediate and long-term needs, equipping families with the tools they need to thrive. Through a combination of healthcare, education, and family support services, CHIP works to create healthier, more resilient communities by focusing on the well-being of children in the critical early stages of life. My preceptor, who is also the Regional Parent Cafe Coordinator, organizes and distributes themes and activities for all different workshops in the area by creating conversation cards, ordering food catering for the dinners we host, and essentially “managing the entire Parent Cafe events”.
