Exploring Culture
This is a short preview of my experience with Spanish 102. During my time in the Navy, I’ve encountered different people from many different Hispanic backgrounds. Mostly Dominican, Mexican, and El Salvadorian. From those relationships, I’ve learned basic Spanish phrases and nuances. I thought I would be well prepared for this class but there was still much for me to learn. The most important thing I’ve realized is that there is a language within the language. Someone from Mexico will speak a bit different and have different words than someone from El Salvador. This class helped me realize that. In this website I will just give a small glimpse into my experience taking Spanish 102. I participate in the community in a unique way. I enjoy coaching youth in various sports. I’ve coached pop warner football, basketball, t-ball and most recently soccer. One these teams there are kids from all backgrounds and ethnicities. For those who have a Latino background and heritage, I try my best to communicate in way they comprehend best.
