Hi! My name is John Pang and I’m a Junior at Old Dominion University. I’m looking to seek a degree in Cybersecurity and down below are some of the things I’ve done so far.
Cybersecurity Career Connections
On the day I went, a couple companies that I went to were Busch’s Gardens, Geico, and Sentara. I didn’t get to visit a lot of companies because I was in a time crunch but in the amount of time I had, I was able to get basic knowledge on what it’s like to work as an intern in their companies.
Out of those three companies, the one that stood out to me was Geico. Geico actually has a program where if you’re interested in cybersecurity but don’t have a degree, that’s an option you can take. But basically, the day-to-day life at Geico is what you’d expect.
You’re tasked with monitoring and troubleshooting the cybersecurity aspect of Geico’s enterprise, ensuring that everything is functioning properly. You’re also asked to provide suggestions on new design/architecture that pertain to cybersecurity, regarding being on par with Geico’s standards. Finally, it is important to make technical notes on the technical aspects of cybersecurity with regards to the safety of the infrastructure and ensuring that day-to-day activities are possible.
