My name is Joseph Nguyen, and I am a student here at Old Dominion University, pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity. I discovered a passion for the field back in high school when I had the opportunity to take an introductory class. After having taken the class, I learned about the growing digital environment and the need for a constant supply of stronger security, and decided to pursue a career in cybersecurity.
Through my coursework at Old Dominion University, I have developed foundational skills in the field of cybersecurity, such as networking, system security, and risk assessment. I have also gained experience working with networking tools such as nmap and Wireshark, practiced with command line code on Windows and Linux-based operating systems, and learned concepts related to securing systems and analyzing potential threats.
I hold industry-recognized certifications, including CompTIA Security+ and CompTIA Security Analyst+, with a plan on pursuing a networking certification, Microsoft Azure certification, and a SIEM certification through Splunk, in the near future. I am also currently seeking opportunities to further develop my skills through cyber-related internships, where I can contribute to protecting digital systems and continue growing as a professional.
