About Me

Hello! My name is Chris Kanak, I am a junior at Old Dominion University majoring in Communication with a focus in Public Relations. I am taking social psych because my advisor recommended a 300-400 level psychology class, and I believed social psych to be the most engaging and interesting of the selection. Psychology interests me because the way that people think and act is fascinating; I believe that psychology pairs nicely with communication and PR as both involve critical thinking and decision making, which in turn require a decent understanding of psychology to make the most of. Once I graduate, it is my goal to find work in the fields of public relations and marketing, with the subsequent goal of securing a position in social media management for a company that I like.

Outside of my classes, I keep myself busy on campus with work and university organizations. I am a player for theRainbow 6: Siege Logo university’s varsity esports program, with Rainbow 6: Siege being my game of choice. I am also a manager for ODU’s varsity swim team, where I work with the coaching staff and swimmers to help make sure their meets and practices run smoothly without major issue. This is thankfully also convenient to my job as a lifeguard at the university’s pool, where I have worked since my freshman year back in 2019.

At home I like to keep things simple; when I’m not finishing homework I’m usually relaxing with my dog–a beautiful Australian shepherd named Nixie–while watching a movie or a show, and when I do go out I like to take my 1991 Miata for a drive down the local roads, with the top down when it’s warm enough of course. I also have a slew of hobbies that have held my interest since I was a child; I am an avid collector of Transformers action figures and LEGO sets, my favorites being the BIONICLE theme from 2001-2010 and 2015-2016, and the recent Speed Champions sets which are focused on sports and supercars from a variety of manufacturers from around the world. Additionally, even though it’s still a fairly recent addition to my ever-growing list of hobbies and interests, maintaining and working on my car is another enjoyable pastime of mine, and I also play plenty of video games when I’m not preoccupied with anything else.

Thank you for reading this quick blurb about me, I’m looking forward to the rest of this semester and my time at ODU!
