If I was asked , “Why are you who you are today” my answer would be instant.
As the oldest of 5 siblings, I learned responsibility at a young age. I am a bit of an over-achiever, but I would always rather push myself to do more than settle for less. This basic family structure has influenced my personality and goals in many other aspects of my life.
I have been working since I was 16, and quickly became a manager at my first job, a position I held for over two years until I decided to take my skillset elsewhere. While working my management position, I also worked in the children’s care center at the YMCA, more so for the experience rather than the pay. I find myself more content in being busy than having loads of free time, thus why I currently work as a full-time server while getting my degree in psychology. These same hardworking and dedicated traits also show in my educational life. I joined the International Baccalaureate in sixth grade and finished this past year resulting in receiving my IB Diploma along with my advanced one. It was seven years of vigorous work I completed while working fulltime and being a parental-like figure for my siblings. Although draining at times, I would never change the path I took, and hope I was able to set a good influence for my siblings.
Connection to Cybersecurity
As a Criminal Psych major, a lot of the crime I will be facing will be directed, rooted, or involved with the online world. In specific, I am hoping to work with young victims of different traumatic experiences. Many of these will have most of their communications being through the internet, requiring me to have an understanding of it. Besides that, my files will be kept online. These files are extremely valuable and confidential thus, making it a priority to have them protected from malware or hackers. When trying to upkeep these protection programs such as NIST, I may have to communicate with others around the world. Thankfully I have 5 years of experience in Spanish, and 4 in French. Cybersecurity will be detrimental to my credibility, and my ability to work in remote situations.
