Hello! My name is Tylesha Kebe. I am currently a Senior here at Old Dominion University. I am majoring in Human Services and Minoring in Psychology. I started my journey here at Old Dominion University as a Nursing Major. I always wanted to be a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Working with children were and are always my passion. I was so dedicated when I started at Old Dominion University to make sure I completed my goal. I realized that things do not always happen that way. I wasn’t focused. I was too focused on everything else that was going on in my life that I lost focused and failed Anatomy I & II twice. When I refocused my life, I found out I was pregnant with my daughter.
I knew that I had to put my dream on hold and I did not know where to turn from there. I started reading about Human Services and what they do. It was a very broad program and the options are endless. I knew I wanted to work with children, teens, and young adults. I have always wanted to create my own nonprofit organizations. The organizations that I want to create are one for young adult men, one for young adult women, one for at-risk children and teens, and one for bullying. In the start of my Junior Year, I began working at the Joint Expeditionary Base LC Child Development Center working with the 1 and 2 year old children. During my Junior Year, I volunteered at Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters in Child Life Program. My last semester of my Senior Year, I had the pleasure of interning at ForKids Inc. One goal I have this final semester is find out what area of Human Services I am interested in. Another goal I have is to determine if I want to become licensed. I plan to further my education at Norfolk State University with a Master’s of Social Work.
