Hello, my name is Kristen Meyer, and I am a psychology major. I am finally in the last semester of my bachelor’s degree. I have been working on this degree off and on for twelve years! My children are both in school now, so I have the time to focus on my academics. I plan to continue my education and earn a master’s degree. I have always had the desire to help people. To help people effectively, I need to understand human behaviors, which lead me to pursue psychology. My career goal is to become a licensed counselor and start my own business providing in-home visits as a postpartum counselor. From my experience, there is a genuine need for easily accessible postpartum care that is not currently available for many new mothers. New mothers are often too stressed out, exhausted, and scared to pack up their babies and take them along to a counseling session. I hope that more women would feel they could receive the help they need by offering in-home services. I decided to take Cross-Cultural Psychology because I thought this course would benefit me in my future endeavors. Learning about different cultures and their impacts on behavior and personality would strengthen my skills as a counselor. Living in a military community, I anticipate encountering many individuals from many different cultures. I would hate to offend someone or not understand how to help them due to having a lack of perspective.
