Hello! My name is Kaitlynn Vreeland and I am a Junior at Old Dominion University. I am studying to become a Psychology major with a minor in Business. The desire to understand others and how an individual’s behavior develops and changes is what pulled me towards wanting to be in the field of psychology. With many different specializations to follow I decided the path for me is Industrial and Organizational psychology. Working in several different industries and for a multitude of management staff, even being part of management at one point myself, I have wanted to understand the reasons there are certain attitudes and behaviors that workers show and how negative ones develop. In the future, focusing on I/O psychology would allow me to apply critical thinking skills and data research to identify and develop programs for either a specialty in performance assessment and recognition or organizational development and management. This course in social psychology is important for me to take as it will allow me to expand my knowledge on how individuals behavior is affected in different social settings. Problems that can occur in an individuals thoughts, feelings, and beliefs are all influenced by interactions in social contexts. Learning how and why this occurs will allow me to apply it to my job in the future.
