About Me

Thank you for taking the time to explore my ePortfolio! My name is Kelly Burton and I am 40 years old from South Hill, Virginia. I was born and raised in the small town right above the state line and spent 21 years of my life there. I am the baby of the family with one older brother. I am very close with my family and believe they make you stronger. I currently live in Richmond, Virginia with my partner of 16 years.

I am currently in my final semester at Old Dominion University and will graduate with dual degrees in Business Management and Accounting. I have worked very hard for the last 8 years to get to where I am. I have been enrolled in classes part time, while I worked full time as well. I have all the confidence that getting these two degrees is what is best for me and my future and will help me to achieve everything I have wanted for my life.

I work full time currently for Weinstein Properties as an AP Accountant and have been with the company for a little over a year now. I am very excited to see how my degrees will continue to help me grow with Weinstein. I love my job and my team mates. As a part of my job, I take incoming invoices and verify they match existing proposals for work to be completed and then process them through our software systems. I accept statements monthly to reconcile what has been paid, with what possibly was missed and get approvals for payments that are past due. My portfolio with Weinstein is based out of Austin and Dallas Texas. I work with 14 properties to ensure that their invoices are paid, any work orders are completed out for payment with vendors as well. We work as a team to make sure all financials at the end of the month are within budget and move any incorrectly coded purchases to their proper categories. I worked in property management on site for 11 years. I started out as a leasing consultant and worked my way up to the Assistant Manager, then finally as a bookkeeper for the property. I loved that position the most out of my career on site. As a bookkeeper, I posted the resident monthly rent checks, worked with the manager to pay invoices for work done on property. I handled resident issues, prospect tours, marketing reports and month end financials on site with corporate. It could be a very stressful job, but it was enjoyable with my co-workers.

I am a sports fan, following mostly college sports. Go Tar Heels! I am very much into the arts and music. I am crafty, enjoy making my own wreaths for the holidays and this year I have started to make my own wooden front door signs. I enjoy sewing and plan to make a quilt or two in the future. I participated in marching band my entire high school career and absolutely loved the music combined with the discipline needed for the show to come together. I still enjoy seeing bands compete when I can. My partner and I enjoy going to UNC games and traveling the world. We have got to Jamaica, Mexico and the Dominican Republic so far over seas and quite a few places in the States. We do not have kids, but our pets Ram and Karolina are our version of having kids. Having fun in life is what makes you stay young and cope with all of the craziness this world has to offer.
