My name is Monica and my academic goal is to graduate at the start of Fall 2022 so that I can become a children’s counselor. I major in Human Services and I have a minor in Psychology. I am actually thinking about the double major opportunity provided to human services majors and I might add Sociology. I am taking this specific course because it is a requirement for me to graduate, but also because cross-cultural psychology is very important. The reason I am interested in psychology or the human services field, in general, is based on my own experiences growing up. I never truly felt like I had someone to talk to about my problems and receive the feedback I needed. Of course, I’d talk to close friends about it, but with the problems I faced, they never really knew what to do. I’m also interested in this field because although my friends weren’t able to help me, regardless of anything going on, I helped them and others. I used to struggle when it came to the, “what do you want to be when you grow up” question, but after helping people, I knew I wanted to be a counselor.
