My name is Kelly Jones. This ePortfolio collects some of the work that I’m doing as a candidate for a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies at Old Dominion University.
In my current career, I’m an audio producer and editor. I make short features and long-form narrative series. Most recently, I was the senior producer of Seizing Freedom — a podcast about how African Americans took their own freedom during the Civil War, made that freedom real during Reconstruction, and fought to protect their freedom during early Jim Crow. Making Seizing Freedom exposed me to all kinds of archives, from diary entries to speeches to newspaper articles and advertisements to recorded oral histories. I’m hoping to use my future MLIS degree to be a conduit between librarians, archivists, historians, and journalists (though I’m not entirely sure what that will look like, yet!).
When I’m not working or focused on classes, I do gymnastics or practice kung fu, watch musicals with my 10-year-old theater kid, and bake pastries, cakes, and bread.
