My name is Niasia Dickerson. I am 29 years old. I started college in 2013 at VCU. Between 2015 and 2018, many life-altering events hindered me from completing school. I have an 8-year-old daughter and have worked as a 911 Dispatcher for 5 years. My current internship is at Commonwealth Senior Living. This company is known for having independent living, assisted living, and memory care units.  While many of these facilities are in Virginia, my internship is in Onancock, Virginia. Commonwealth Senior Living was founded in 2002. This company began with three communities in southeastern Virginia; more than 35 communities are across multiple states today. The mission statement for this company is “Our goal is to provide quality care to our senior population in a homelike non-institutional atmosphere. We provide services with the dignity, respect, and compassion our residents and their families expect and deserve. Our simple motto of “Welcome Home” conveys the feeling we want all residents and guests to feel when entering a Commonwealth Senior Living community.” Commonwealth Senior Living has a reputation for exceptional care, and its programs have often led to them being recognized by national and local organizations. My preceptor for this internship is Corinne Price. She has been the Executive Director of Commonwealth Senior Living for 3 years. She also has 8 years of experience in her previous role at Always Best Care Senior Services. She is responsible for everything in the community, including day-to-day operations, driving sales, ensuring adherence to all state regulations, community outreach, budget, and building maintenance. She manages a team of 6 directors who each run a department: sales, dining services, programming, business office & nursing, and memory care. There is a staff of about 70 employees.
