SwordGai: The Unknown Netflix Original Anime

SwordGai is a Netflix Original anime that was released in 2018. This anime adaptation was based on its manga with the same title (released back in 2012).

Synopsis:

The series follows the young protagonist named Gai who was found by a blacksmith in the middle of the forest. He was holding a cursed sword called “Shiryu. As the journey goes on, Gai has to fight the dark impulses that resonate from Shiryu as it influences him and his choices within the story. If he fails to defend against those impulses, the sword Shiryu will corrupt his body and turn him into a Busoma (a large, mechanized monster — which are also the primary antagonists of the series).

Personal Review:

SwordGai was one of the best Netflix original animations I had seen in awhile. The dark atmosphere, the multi-dimensional protagonist, and the looming feeling of an impending consequence made me feel as though I was in the world along with Gai. The anime itself is not as long as some mainstream titles, like Naruto or Dragon Ball Z. So, it was easy to watch it in its entirety. It is truly a seamless combination of three anime: Demon Slayer (with its Sword combat), PychoPass (with its gloomy atmosphere), and Attack on Titan (with a protagonist who goes through a slew of emotions as he comes to terms with his future). For those who are anime enthusiasts, I would definitely give this one a watch!
