Hi! My name is Shianne Brown, and I’m 20 years old. I am currently enrolled as a student at Old Dominion University, studying cybercrime with a minor in psychology. For the past few years I have gained experience in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, which I am certified in. I have also gained knowledge from coursework such as criminology, criminal justice, and cybersecurity. These classes have given me technology, people, and communication skills but also shown how crime and cyber work together. While showing me how criminals interact with technology to try and get away with the crime.
I have participated in many extracurricular activities that have helped me build leadership and teamwork skills. I like working with other people to get their insight on whatever topic we are discussing. I enjoy group work as well as individual studies to see the difference in opinion. In my personal life, I love to read books and play volleyball with friends. I played for six years on travel and school teams and was team captain for my travel teams. This taught me how to really listen to others and how to solve problems in stressful situations. In my free time I also babysit and pet-sit; this has taught me many different levels of responsibility as well as how to think quick on my feet.
In the future my goal is to work with the FBI in the sex trafficking unit or the domestic violence unit. Within these units cybersecurity is essential to hack into the systems of illegal matters like sex trafficking. Overall I want to help people who can’t help themselves. Domestic violence and trafficking happen every day all around us, even if you don’t know. I want to make a difference.
