I chose to to learn Spanish not only because it opens many doors to job opportunities but because it is an important language to me personally. My grandfather immigrated from Mexico when he was just 16. He did not know a single word of English when he met my grandmother, so she learned Spanish for him. My mother was 16 when they adopted her into their family. Without them, I am not sure what either of our lives would look like. So to honor my grandparents, I am learning Spanish with the hopes that one day I can hold a conversation with my grandfather in his native language.
