In this portfolio, you will find content related to my experiences to learning Spanish. As someone who intends to work as a literary historian, it is increasingly useful to be able to communicate in a language other in English. Spanish will be particularly helpful to me, as I intend to work with material that lives in Spanish archives and institutions. For instance, I study 16th century politics, focusing on Elizabeth I and her connection to international powers. In particular, her relationship with Spain was always fraught. I intend to use my knowledge of Spanish to examine items such as the Spanish court ambassadors’ communications, royal policies, and popular sentiment regarding England.

Furthermore, my knowledge of Spanish will allow me work more effectively with the individuals who oversee these archives and institutions. This way, I can build rapport with them, likely easing my access to historical materials and showing respect for the culture I am examining.

My experiences with learning Spanish are reflected throughout this portfolio, capturing my ability to read, write, and speak this language. If you have questions about any content I’ve shared, please feel free to use my Contact Form to reach out to me.
