Hi, my name is Summer.
I am a third-year college student studying Criminal Justice at Old Dominion University, where I plan to pursue a career in law. I am a responsible college student interested in obtaining an entry-level role within the legal system environment, working with dedicated industry professionals. I have a demonstrated history of showing leadership, initiative, and seizing opportunities to complete increasingly challenging tasks. I am hard-working and eager to learn while seeking to gain experience. My goal is to use my knowledge of the law to help those in need and vulnerable populations.
Prior to taking CYSE200, I had considered several careers like family law, criminal law, and child advocacy law. However, as I have learned more about cybersecurity and the legal system, I now know there are other interesting opportunities. With cybersecurity being a growing industry, I have developed an interest in a career as a cybersecurity attorney. This As a student who has taken a course in cybersecurity, I have learned that these types of legal specialists work on legal issues related to data security and privacy. Their job can include a focus on an organization’s legal compliance with laws such as HIPAA. This role is one of the most in-demand legal positions in the field of law.
While my technical knowledge is currently basic, I do understand the importance of security through techniques that I have used such as multi-factor authentication and facial recognition to protect against threats. I have seen the impacts, and know people who have been victims of identity theft, data breaches, malware, and ransomware. Working in a field protecting against vulnerabilities that can impact not only companies, but customers, would allow me to achieve my goals of using my knowledge of the law to help people.
