My current major is Cybersecurity. Through my research amongst all of the majors offered at Old Dominion University, I have seen that Cybersecurity is a critical component in how the world is operated. It’s essential to have skills in this field in all aspects of technology. Constantly we as humans are tested through the advancement of technology. We must combat this platform’s integrity by staying ahead of the curve in this field—the ever-growing demand for security on systems that we use, ranging from small businesses to the federal government. Cybersecurity plays a significant role in how we maintain an elite presence in the world of technology. Overall, when I decided to select Cybersecurity as my major. I wanted to have a deeper understanding of how the background of a computer or a system works and how to protect my identity on the cyber network and protect my family with all the information shared through the internet. So many people are being left behind and taken advantage of because of the advancement in technology. It is terrifying to see that you can have your entire life flipped upside down just within seconds because you did not understand a link that you may have clicked on. Or you are visiting a well-known site that has just been corrupted by a group of hackers. I want to protect others from these types of attacks, and it’s what drives me daily in this study. Also, during this pandemic – COVID-19, I learned that job security is no longer something to rely on because many individuals, including myself, lost their jobs. Cybersecurity is a growing field in the global market, and the demand for it is high. So I know that I will forever be with work in the long run, and that’s something that keeps me going in this field. Overall, this is how my major in Cybersecurity relates to cybersecurity technology.
