It comes to no surprise to me that social cybersecurity is at the forefront of the DoD. Without limiting freedom of speech, how does a government entity restrict the information available to the public? This includes any misinformation spread either by its citizens or adversaries from other countries. I believe that instead of focusing on how we can control the spread of misinformation we should focus on educating the public on how to fact check and verify information we may encounter. Misinformation is not a new concept. The lack of control over the information is. This should be a scary thing for any government because it also calls for them to be accountable for the true information that they may not want the public to have access to. I believe once we learn how to combat our biases, fact check information instead of blindly following whatever we find on the internet, then and only then will the population be protected from social cyber-attacks. The same can be said from what we learn from newspapers and other non-digital media outlets.
