Design File Idea 2

How does the image chosen use Gestalt principles of design (Kostelnik 53) to help guide the user experience and enhance usability of the aesthetically pleasing recipe infographic?

The above image is a detailed and illustrated recipe on how to make Cheesecake Swirl Brownies to go with your tea at tea time. The first principles immediately at use at a glance are the found in the color schemes. Coherency throughout the image is developed and created through using the and handful of complementing color in slightly different shades. The most obvious are the pinks and browns used in the title of the page at the tope, also seen in the tea cup graphic and the brownie graphic at the bottom of the page, but also further seen in the image examples helpfully included in the ingredient and instruction sections. Even the letter are in the same brownie shade. Glancing throughout, a few strategic uses of the bluish gray shade tie everything together while also offering a helpful break up to make sure the user can easily determine the coherence and unity in the piece without being monotonous.

Further principles at use are blocking. While the creator literally and obviously blocks out the column of the page that includes the ingredients, this obvious framed blocking helps to offset and block the instructions section on the right hand half. Furthermore, each set of instructions, accompanied in close proximity with appropriate graphic illustrations, are blocked off to indicate the clear boundaries between the steps. Which brings proximity principles to attention. Every graphic and illustration is placed in close proximity with the relevant and important letters and written information to make the relationship clear and understandable.

Beyond Gestalt principles of similarity found in the color schemes or the principles of proximity found in the blocking and relationships, the image is appropriately filled with all the necessary and useful information, which is the basic foundation of any instruction sheets and manual. This recipe page for designing food includes how many brownies the recipe will make, how long the recipes will take, how much of every ingredient, the baking temperatures and times, and all the instructions. As someone who is obsessed and in literal love with baking, these things do not go unnoticed and finding a way to do all of this in an aesthetically pleasing manner is highly appreciated.
