They also need to know about the costs of items and the different money-related terms in order to shop more confidently and effectively. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tasks<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>T asks\nthe students to pull up the website on their phones. T will then explain to the\nstudents that they will be purchasing three items from the ad: a TV, a watch,\nand a toy. T will challenge the students to see who can come up with the\ncheapest purchase. T will quickly review and answer any questions the Ss may\nhave regarding money and items.<\/li><li>S will find\na partner, and with their partner they will begin looking through the ad,\ndiscussing with one another about the costs of the items they will be purchasing.<\/li><li>T will\nwalk around and listen to each group, helping\/correcting the Ss if necessary. <\/li><li>T will\nask each group to see who came up with the cheapest \u201ctransaction,\u201d correcting\/helping\nthem if necessary and providing any additional feedback to the class. Not only do the students get to learn new terms\/phrases, they\nalso get to utilize them in activities that mimic what they would experience in\nreal life. Rather than using an activity in the textbook, they are given items\nthat they may see outside the classroom. In this instance, they are looking at\na Black Friday ad, which were everywhere before the Thanksgiving season. As\nBlack Friday is a huge deal in the United States, it is not unusual for a\nshopping ad to be used as an example of how Americans spend money and where. It\nalso represents our shopping culture and the craze around Black Friday. Using\nauthentic materials in activities is also a better way for the students to have\nan easier time memorizing certain aspects of the language, as an ad that was\npart of a fun activity would surely stick to mind more than an activity in a\ntextbook.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Activity Name: How much does this cost?
