The connection between disciplines and entrepreneurship at ODU is there integration. Old Dominion offers a vast curriculum which can be tailored to suit your needs for every student’s professional endeavors. In my interdisciplinary studies class we addressed the countless opportunities this school offers its students when applying for majors. That being stated, the field of entrepreneurship can be connected to a multitude of disciplines to fit the student’s criteria for success.
Entrepreneurship is both an art and science. An entrepreneurship is due to the multitude of hats an entrepreneur wears. The art of entrepreneurship lies in the talent of the entrepreneur, whether its a hairstylist, providing a service or a sculptor selling his work. The science is in the business. A good entrepreneur uses the scientific method to start a business uses experiments and learning from the results. Entrepreneurs test their hypothesis and create/invent new solutions to those problems. The art is in the solution.
Failure is good because it provides you a chance to learn and grow. Although it may feel unpleasant, failure is good opportunity to review your mistakes and improve them. Through failures we are offered another shot to come back stronger with a different approach that can lead to better results. Failure is a good reminder that we’re human. Human error is apart of life and leads to failure. Our failures make us aware that we have the choice to pick up and continue to try and do better or let that failure define us. The good is in the choice to do and be better.
From failure, I’ve learned to work harder. Failure is never the end, it can also be seen as the beginning of something better. In my failures, I’ve learned where I went wrong, and how to improve and lessen the chances of error, on my next try. In most failures, there’s a defining moment, where I can choose to give up, or to try again. In that choice, I’m shaping the person I wish to become. Failures are a part of life, that may be unpleasant, but through them I create new opportunities to be better than my best.
Ethical issues that might arise could be due to a lack of knowledge as I’m learning and growing in the entrepreneurial field. Issues such as the bottom line can get in the way of affordability of the product can also arise in my endeavors. The ethical issue, I would be presented with lies in my ability to sell my product reasonably for all consumers, whilst making a profit. Other ethical issues I may face involve red tape. There are only 130,000 businesses are black owned out of six million business in the US, due to red tape making it harder to hold and sustain businesses as a black individual.
