This is a relatively small meeting compared to AGU or ASLO, there were about 2 hundred attendees and with only one session going on at a time you don&#8217;t have to make a decision between several interesting talks. I presented my work on Arctic\u00a0CDOM in sea ice from the Catlin Ice Camp and Dick presented our work on modeling the light availability for seagrass growth in the Chesapeake Bay. I had some very informative talks with the guys from Satlantic and have made my decision on which light sensors to\u00a0use on my new Arctic buoy system. This meeting\u00a0is a great way to catch up with friends and colleagues, many of whom I only get to see at this conference. After all the science talk we spent a fun evening at the conference banquet, Dr Alex Cummingham entertained us with a brief history of Scotland, including pictures\u00a0of the normally shy wild haggis, and a discussion on the Loch Ness monster. We then spent the rest of the night working off dinner with traditional Scottish country dancing. The conference included two very moving tributes to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.obs-vlfr.fr\/LOV\/OMT\/personnes\/z_more_an\/morel.php\" target=\"_blank\">Andre Morel<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boothbayregister.com\/article\/charles-s-yentsch\/3567\" target=\"_blank\">Charlie Yentsch<\/a> giants in the world of Ocean Optics who both passed away this year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/BORG\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/57\/2012\/10\/2012-10-14-14.19.20.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1108\" title=\"View from Edinburgh castle, we took a day trip once the conference was over.\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/BORG\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/57\/2012\/10\/2012-10-14-14.19.20-300x100.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/BORG\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/57\/2012\/10\/DSC00555.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1112\" title=\"Proof of the Loch Ness Monster\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/BORG\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/57\/2012\/10\/DSC00555-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dick and I just spent a very productive\u00a0week at our favourite conference, Ocean Optics.
