Participants will work in groups to complete species assessments. Species accounts are stored on the IUCN Species Information System Database (SIS), then projected and edited during the workshop.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Upon reviewing all pertinent information for each species, the group will then select the appropriate assessment category and the criteria that may apply to the species. It is important that we justify why the species has been assigned to the particular category. The purpose of the Red List Rationale is to act as a concise stand-alone summary, briefly summarizing the main evidence, i.e., like an abstract for the whole species assessment.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/divi:paragraph --><!-- divi:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>We encourage you to bring all pertinent materials to the workshop in digital (e.g. pdf or other) format. The aim of this workshop is to complete Red List Assessments for specific marine species groups using the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria as part of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/GMSA\/about\/\">Global Marine Species Assessment (GMSA)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>If you are not familiar with the Red Listing Process, we encourage you to familiarize yourself with the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria (attached in&nbsp;full&nbsp;and in&nbsp;summary below). The Red List documents are also available in French, Spanish, Arabic, and Mandarin Chinese. Please note that the assessment process will be explained in detail on the first day of the workshop.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Red List Assessment workshops rely on experts like you who have contributed their time and effort to assess key marine species groups, in recognition of such efforts; we try to get our experts out to exotic locations, with past workshops held in Fiji, Bali, Palau, Philippines, Bahamas, etc. MBU members in charge of workshop preparations will be in touch regarding specific dates and workshop venue. Attached is a&nbsp;participant travel information document (below)&nbsp;that you would need to fill out so we can send travel preferences to our travel agent. If you opt to pay for your travels, we can reimburse your expenses after you send us the invoice of your travel arrangements. We also reimburse fuel fees, bus\/train, taxis \u2013 any form of transportation to and from the workshop. Please note that as a rule, IUCN can only pay for economy class tickets.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:heading {\"level\":3} -->\n<h3>Visa Services<\/h3>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The MBU will cover costs for visa services, should there be a requirement for selected workshop locations. MBU members in charge of workshop preparations will coordinate visa arrangements prior to the workshops.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:heading {\"level\":3} -->\n<h3>Reimbursement Process<\/h3>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>For participants that need to file reimbursement claims for internal travel costs, please send a copy of your invoice and any numbered, scanned receipts, along with the<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>IUCN expense claim form below. Please make sure to provide current address and banking information (we will reimburse by direct deposit in USD, AUD and CHF).<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:heading {\"level\":3} -->\n<h3>At the Workshop<\/h3>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Workshops typically last 4-5 days from 9am-5pm, but can sometimes last longer, depending on the volume of species, and, the type of information associated with the species groups (i.e., commercial species or data intensive species groups will typically take longer to assess than poorly known species).
