COVID-19:
The current COVID-19 pandemic is an evolving and unpredictable situation that is limiting travel worldwide. Part of our planning for the 2022 Philippines programs includes adhering to ever changing requirements set by participating academic institutions and governmental agencies of the US and the Republic of the Philippines as these respond to the pandemic. The safety of students and staff is paramount in this process. We are exploring alternatives to field research should it be determined that international travel will not be possible.
TRAVEL ALERT:
The Republic of the Philippines has opened its borders to travel by foreign tourists. Visas are issued to foreigners who are 100%, or fully vaccinated against COVID-19. We highly recommend applicants be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and have a booster. Applicants who are unable to obtain an entry visa will not be selected for the program.

We want to thank you for your interest in the Philippines PIRE project REU summer internship. The dates for the program, to be scheduled for summer semester 2022, are yet to be determined pending the status of COVID-19. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Republic of the Philippines is restricting travel and is not issuing visas to foreigners. The Department of State and the Centers for Disease Control have heightened travel warnings to level 3, recommending the suspension and postponement of international student programs. We intend to offer the program this year. We look forward to receiving your applications. Until then we wish you the greatest success in all your endeavors!
Thank you for your interest in the Philippines PIRE Project REU program. Applicants who do not meet the eligibility requirements will not be considered. Students from non participating institutions should consider applying to our partner program, Philippines International Research Experience for Students.
