Technology and computers have both made the world safer and less safe for different reasons. Technology is so integrated into our everyday lives now, and it provides a lot of ease and modern day conveniences that we didn’t once have. Some examples of how computers have made the world safer could include the use of GPS, technological healthcare, and the ability to create a security system through your phone. With the adoption of GPS systems and giving the boot to using a paper map, it has made our driving experiences far safer in that we don’t have to glance down at a paper and rather we have a computer that talks to us and tells us where to go. The advancements in healthcare related to technology have been extremely beneficial in their remote monitoring capabilities that give users the ability to track things such as their heart rate or blood sugar levels to ensure they’re staying safe and healthy. The use of home security systems have become much easier and accessible because of the ability to now operate and manage the system remotely through ones personal device. Moreover, there are also ways in which computers have made the world less safe such as the possibility of technology making humans feel disconnected or depressed, leaves younger users exposed to mature content, and a lack of authenticity. Although the world is at our fingertips with computers and we can talk to or engage with whoever we please, technology can leave individuals feeling extremely isolated or depressed. Additionally, with the average age of technology users continuously dropping, our youth has access to mature and inappropriate content which is not safe. Lastly, the lack of authenticity can become very unsafe in certain situations; computers have given users the ability to hide behind a screen and lie about who they might be which could make it extremely unsafe for individuals who want to meet up with someone they met online, without really being able to confirm their identity.
