This week we learned about the interdisciplinary aspect of cybersecurity and how different areas of study contribute to the world of cybersecurity. Furthermore, we were introduced to the multiple pathways to careers in cybersecurity. Disciplines have specific research methods and particular objects of research. There are three types of disciplines: Multidisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and interdisciplinarity. Multidisciplinary is putting insights side by side from two or more disciplines without integrating them. Transdisciplinary gives academic researchers from different disciplines the opportunity to add and create new knowledge. Lastly, interdisciplinary is a cognitive process that gives individuals or groups with disciplinary perspectives the chance to integrate insights to emphasize their understanding of a complex problem(s). the goals of interdisciplinarity are to apply and understand a real world-problem. When looking like associated disciplines there are a plethora to choose from. Information Science is one who works with, researched, and learns about the managements of information of nay form. This includes storing, retrieving, describing, organizing and representing. This related to cybersecurity because it looks at how information is stored and how it can be protected. Furthermore, it looks at technological strategies can be used to protect information. Information Technology (IT) is another popular major. IT analyzes design, development, implementation, support/management of computer-based information systems such as software applications and computer hardware. IT enables safe operations of applications on an organization’s IT system and safeguards the technology assets in use at an organization. Computer Science is the study of phenomena reacted to computers. With that being said, computer science relates to cybersecurity because cybersecurity also looks into the phenomenon related to computers in order to protect organizations from cyberattacks. Lastly Criminal Justice/Criminology analyzes the punishment, judicial response, prevention strategies, who and why commits crimes, and pattern of these crimes. Criminal Justice/Criminology relate to cybersecurity because it can study the different patterns of cyberattacks and the determine the cause for these cyberattacks. Furthermore, it will help determine the appropriate punishment and judicial response to these crimes. Cybercriminal is the study of the causes of crimes that happen in the cyberspace and its impact in society.
