Workplace deviance can be defined as any voluntary behavior that violates significant organizational norms and threatens the well being of a company/organization or its members. This type of exploitation is not uncommon, but it was not an easy task either. Before the increase of cyber technology, workplace deviance was not as easily done. Although it was very possible, it was hard to be as discreet as it is nowadays. For examples, stealing money had to be done in a physical approach, one approach being by waiting for the perfect opportunity to go to the register and take a few dollars in hopes that your employer would not notice the missing money. But because of the cyber security advances, it is possible to do the same thing, but from the comfort of your own home, while taking a lot more at once. Cyber technology opened a whole new world of workplace deviance, because of how quick, effective, and discreet the action can be if done correctly. As long as the employee is granted authorization, that employee can do a ton of damage without being tracked. The worker can make the organization lose a lot of money during their exploitation. They can also ruin the reputation of that business. One example would be if a worker at a small bakery began to steal the money that is made there. The loss of funds can be detrimental to the business if they are not able to gain enough for their inventory or company bills. Not only that, but if their customers see that they are not able to keep up with certain stock like their favorite cupcakes, they could potentially lose their customers too. When a deviant worker takes from a business, there will always be a negative impact on that business.
